Visit to Newton Place 15th Feb 2019
Local community official Kate Green arraigned a very interesting and informative visit to the building siite for some members of The Newton Art Group
The building scheduled to open early 2020 will hopefully be available for exhibitions etc.
We are progressing our interest in what appears to be a welcome addition to Newton Abbot
Tower Cup - 17th Oct 2018
A reasonable number of members attended as Janye Fairleigh carried out entertaining critiques at our annual Tower Cup Competition
Winner this year was Irene Hill for "Poppies of Provance"
An enjoyable evening once again with another splendid buffet
Thanks to everyone who helped and attended
Not sure why we don't get more members as this is always a very good session
Stover Country Park Sketching Day
Tuesday 20th June 2017
Please would you let Deidre Stewart know if you definitely intend to come along. (see below)
We will meet in car park at Stover Country Park at 10 a.m. Apart from paying to park there, the information centre is disabled friendly (in case of rain) as are the toilets. There is usually an ice cream van and we can gather for lunch about 12.30 in the picnic area along by the lake. There are lots of trees, water, ducks, leaves, sky to have a go at sketching, shade and light.
Bring your favourite sketching equipment in a bag (pens, pencils, watercolours, brushes) but pack as light as you can because the car park is a little way from the lake.
It is a good idea to put a light wash onto two or three sheets of your paper, perhaps diluted yellow ochre, as the sun can glare (hard to imagine today as I type this with the rain sheeting down!)
Large elastic bands or clips etc to anchor the paper in a breeze are a good idea. I find cartridge paper with a firm piece of card to support it, or a sketch pad, is better for sketching than watercolour paper, but it is up to you.
I recommend you bring:
a stool or lightweight chair,
sun hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.
A bottle of water and a stable pot.
A picnic and drink for lunch.
Money for the car park.
If you need a lift please let me know on Friday or tell Virginia, Bryan or Irene and we will try to arrange one for you. You could perhaps be picked up from the Scout Hall car park at 9.30.
I do hope you will join us on this sketching venture.
